chiliZens Update #3

Dear chiliZens,

In the month since our last contributor update, we’ve achieved a great deal. We signed footballing giants Paris Saint-Germain as partners for Socios.com, shortly followed by Italian champions, Juventus.

Partnering with these two major football clubs not only put us on the map, but has changed the way sports clubs view blockchain technology and has kick-started a trend in both the sports world and blockchain space.

New offices + Campus

We’ve finally moved into our new 2,000 sqm offices in Malta, home of the chiliZ Blockchain Campus and the epicenter of the regulated blockchain industry in Europe. Although the design and décor still have to be finished and finalized, we now have space to grow, create, meet, train, and challenge ourselves.

The Campus is also the home of blockchain and crypto companies that are setting-up in Malta. Managed by Beatrice Collet, our new Managing Director, the Campus will help chiliZ become more of an authority in the blockchain space, and hopefully connect many industry stakeholders. The Campus has its own in-house studio and stage that will allow us and many companies to live-stream blockchain content. We will start scheduling regular events and gatherings from November onwards.

Product & Branding

We have expanded aggressively into football and have found that instead of operating a separate vertical for esports, we now have two brands that we need to develop. A lot of work has been done internally to make sure that our narrative make sense and to ensure effective marketing. I’m happy to officially share with you that the split will be as follows:

  • chiliZ is the name of our blockchain company, the name of our token and cryptocurrency ($CHZ) that can be used on our platforms as well as our partners’ platforms, and could be the name of additional blockchain products we would release, for example a wallet
  • Socios.com is the name of the mobile app, website and platform that will carry the sports teams’ vision for their tokens, whatever the sports. It will be the platform where you can buy/sell/trade the exclusive Fan Tokens, but also vote and participate in contests and games, connected to these teams

Our stand at the Leaders Sports Business Summit

Despite the recurring challenge of hiring new talent, our product development is moving forward pretty well, and we now have a fully functional demo that has been presented (see below). Our team is now finishing the real product and platform. If you know coding, you know that the most difficult part is the foundation/start. We have now passed this step, and are now focusing on adding features and concentrating on our mobile application that will be the center of our product strategy.

While, we don’t have competition in our business — for now — we would rather not disclose too much public information about our product offering before launch. We are also working on some cool innovation and features, that were recently introduced to some executives of large blockchain companies — all were really enthusiastic about it. Our focus is to make simple things and to make sure mainstream users can understand our products. Blockchain & crypto has to be as invisible as possible, the same way someone using Tinder or Booking.com doesn’t know about TCP/IP, DNS and SQL.

We had our first ‘chiliZ Town Hall’ meeting in our new offices, to affirm our product and strategy to our 35 colleagues from across 17 different countries.

 

Events and Business Development

On our small #blockchainisland, we had the chance to participate in a massive event — The DELTA Summit, attended by some 4,000 delegates — to celebrate the launch of the world’s first legal blockchain framework. We didn’t have a booth — which I think was a mistake — but had great opportunities to speak to and connect with some of our partners and key industry stakeholders.

The following week, we exhibited at the Leaders Sports Business Summit, the annual mecca of sports executives in London. We held a ‘blockchain masterclass’ session at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea FC, which was well attended by representatives of the NBA as well as soccer executives. We can’t yet disclose our next football teams, but we are very proud, happy and excited about our future partners of Socios.com. We are also starting to receive requests calls from 1st tier investors and TMT strategic partners, who are looking to us to help build common initiatives. However, as I said previously, we can’t disclose too much at this stage.

Next Steps, our Focus & Token Distribution

We have 4 areas of focus:

  • Building and scaling our team
  • Building our platform and product
  • Onboard sports teams & partnering on the distribution of our product
  • Ensuring proper token distribution and accessibility to support our product launch

 

All of these tasks are also connected to our desire to educate mainstream media and larger companies about blockchain & crypto. As some of you follow our Telegram channel — if you don’t, please do — we are always questioned about when our tokens will be distributed. We are working on it, but as we said several times, an early token distribution could damage the token economy that is needed for the launch of the product. We asked the opinion of most of our big contributors and most of them agree to give us time, to ensure that distribution should be connected to our listing and launch strategy. We can’t give an ETA for now. We want to be in strong position, in term of interest, marketing, business development and product to distribute our tokens, and for that, we need more time.
