Lara, a key member of the Frontend Development team, joined Chiliz 18 months ago, back when we were a small group of 20 and our journey towards developing Socios.com had only just begun.
Building an app that is now used by tens of thousands of fans across the world is no mean task. Check out what a typical day for Lara is like:
As a Senior Frontend Developer, what do you do?
I joined Chiliz at an exciting time and I’m happy to say that the excitement has only increased. It’s incredible to think that what we’ve built is being used by more than 100,000 customers so far and in such a short period since release. Naturally there are always updates and bug fixes, but that’s part of the fun. I feel very lucky to have worked on almost every feature in the app from scratch. From Token Hunt to our payment features, I’ve been involved every step of the way.
What’s your background? Have you always worked in software development?
I’ve always had a special interest in software development and began my journey to becoming a Senior Frontend Developer by reading for a degree in B.Sc. IT (Hons.) in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. I began my career in the financial and gaming industries where I stayed for 10 years, specialising in Frontend development for the last 6 years.
What does your average day look like?
Everyday is different but on a daily basis I’m involved in developing and/or enhancing features, assisting team members in their queries and collaborating with other members in the tech department, mainly the UI/UX designer, Head of Product and the Backend team.
What’s the best part of working at Chiliz?
Definitely working with a professional but fun bunch of colleagues. It might sound like a bit of cliché but we’re a tight team that shares ideas to make sure we keep delivering and enhancing the product. I also love the fact that Chiliz is an animal-friendly office, so colleagues bring their dogs in. I even brought Bobby my Lionhead rabbit to the office once.
What’s your favorite part/feature of the Socios.com app?
Definitely, Token Hunt! In my opinion, it is the coolest and most challenging feature of the app to work on. While we have had our fair share of hiccups, the main thing is we made it through and delivered!
