MEET THE TEAM, CALVIN – SOCIAL MEDIA LEAD

From becoming Socios.com’s first Social Media Manager to now leading the team, Calvin or the ‘Socios Admin’ as he’s affectionately known to fans across Twitter, has been an integral part of building the brand’s online identity. 

From brainstorming sessions for future campaigns to content planning and interacting with fans from across the world on various platforms, here’s what a typical day looks like for Calvin: 

What do you as the Social Media Lead do?

It’s quite challenging to explain the role of a Social Media Lead in a few words. At Socios.com, my main priorities are to help give the brand an online presence, build a digital community, as well as promote our product. Aside from the day-to-day management and monitoring of all our social channels, together with the rest of the marketing team, I‘m responsible for coming up with creative social campaigns. Additionally, I also assist in managing the relationship with a number of our partner clubs.

What’s your background? Have you always worked in this space? 

Growing up, I studied business and economics but have always been fascinated with everything digital. I recognised early on that social platforms would one day play a vital role in the success of both local and international brands. Despite my desire to work in this space, my first break in social media only came at the age of 25. It’s never too late kids!

What does your average day look like?

My day begins at around 07:30 and ends at around midnight all while squeezing in some time to eat too ? I usually start the day by going through all our social channels to check up on what happened overnight. That is followed by a call with the rest of my team to discuss the day’s priorities. A typical day entails monitoring all social channels, engaging with our online community and plotting our next marketing campaigns. 

What’s the best part of working at Chiliz? 

Working at Chiliz comes with many perks. In addition to working with incredibly talented colleagues and world-class clubs, I get to be the online voice of one of the most exciting brands on the planet. Did I mention travelling to see football matches with passionate fans and making their dreams come true? 

What’s your favorite part/feature of the Socios.com app? 

Hands down, being able to vote. As a lifelong football fan, I still find it hard to believe that we are allowing fans to have a say in their favourite club. It is something I have always dreamt of but never believed it would actually become a reality. 

What’s been the highlight of your time at Chiliz so far? 

That’s a tough one! In my two years with Socios.com, I have had many surreal and incredible moments. Leading the social team during a partnership announcement is always special. However, if I had to pick just one, I would say flying to Singapore and Korea to cover Juventus’ ICC journey and their Socios.com sponsored match against the K League.
