Blockchain for Good has become the catch-all term for the different ways blockchain is contributing to a brighter future. But, to explain what Blockchain for Good means, to effectively educate stakeholders and mainstream audiences, the industry needs to adopt more diverse educational strategies.
At Chiliz, we recognise this, and, as the technology continues to evolve, we are going to place more emphasis on educating mainstream audiences about blockchain’s potential.
That’s why our Director of Corporate Affairs, James Newman, joined our partners Common Goal (Thomas Preiss) and MatchWornShirt (James Flude) on stage at the SEG3 conference at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium yesterday.
In a panel moderated by the excellent Dan Wood, founder of the World Football Freestyle Association, the guys discussed the power of blockchain technology to drive positive change through sport.
Focusing on our long-term strategic partnership with elite football’s biggest philanthropic movement, Common Goal, we were able to show how blockchain can be a powerful tool for social impact, enhancing transparency and accountability because:
- Every transaction is recorded in real-time and is available to everyone, meaning blockchain can significantly decrease the cost of annual reporting, while increasing overall transparency.
- Blockchain transactions are visible and traceable, meaning transactions can be tracked from the beginning to the end and organisations can have complete transparency over how the funds they have donated will be used.
Thomas Preiss (CEO and Co-Founder of Common Goal)
“We want to be able to show when and where a donation has been made and how it has been used… we want it to be on the blockchain. We’re exploring different use cases and more is coming from us and Chiliz in the future. We firmly believe that this technology can deliver social change.”
Blockchain technology allows for a shared system of record among different parties, which is vital for building trust and bringing different organisations together. This can be huge for philanthropic organisations like Common Goal, but it obviously has massive implications and potential across other sectors, too.
Panels like yesterday’s are important, because they provide valuable insight into how blockchain can strengthen humanitarian efforts, and, because they help reveal to business leaders in our sector, sport, and other sectors, the good that blockchain can do for them.
Watch this space for more on our partnership with Common Goal, including our joint collaboration with MatchWornShirt, The One Shirt Pledge, which uses blockchain technology to authenticate real world collectible items and introduces a new channel for athletes, sporting organisations and fans to contribute to the movement.
