It was pure perseverance that secured Malta’s blockchain intentions this year, chiliZ CEO Alex Dreyfus has explained in a podcast interview.
Armed with an unwavering belief that Malta could lead the European charge into blockchain exploration, Alex began chasing the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. He was determined to showcase the government’s innovative and forward-thinking approach to regulating and legislating for blockchain and cryptocurrencies, an approach that had proved fruitful 15 years previously when i-gaming was first introduced to Malta.
A LinkedIn connection and several emails later, Alex persuaded Binance founder, Changpeng Zhao to visit Malta, and meet Silvio Schembri, the Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation. The rest, as we know, is history, and Alex soon announced his intention to set up the chiliZ Blockchain Campus, as a blockchain epicentre on the island. However, it was CZ himself who accidentally revealed Binance’s intention to set up in Malta, Alex explains.
